Quirky Fridays

Back To Neka’s Cubs

Time for Quirky Friday and we survived last weekends big storm and the monsoons. My alpaca socks came in very handy. Sun is out and there is good news at the Oregon Zoo. The youngest cub has been in the nursery hospital for nine days, but got put back in with her siblings this week. Mom Neka started cleaning her right away, so all fingers are crossed the little furry one will continue to make progress against her chubby sisters.

Seems these kits haven’t quite found their roars yet, so pretty silent video, but how cute are these babies? Have a great weekend and enjoy Quirky Friday!

P.S. Sir Stuffington, the pirate cat, has gathered $3,000 from around the globe in donation booty for the Multnomah County’s Animal Services since his Internet stardom. He is also going to get some surgery for his jaw injury. They are using the donated money to create care kits for foster feline parents. Cats rule!

Sir Stuffington A Handsome Pirate!

September 29, 2013 By Kimberly A. Cook Leave a Comment

So I got off track with all the America’s Cup revelry when Oracle Team USA won on Wednesday and overlooked my Quirky Friday Post. Bad blogger! So today it turns out is Quirky Sunday instead of Quirky Friday. What better way to top off the winning sailing week than with a cute new pirate taking Portland by storm.

Check out Sir Stuffington in all his pirate regalia which is earning him fans around the world on his Facebook page. Those pirates are always breaking hearts and he’s no different. Have a great soggy and windy weekend here in the monsoon Pacific Northwest. Enjoy!

Use The Treadmill Before Or After Fall Goodies?

September 20, 2013 By Kimberly A. Cook 1 Comment

Heading into some cool, rainy fall weather this weekend and my thoughts turn to holiday baking and the calories that go with treats. Been on my treadmill walking regime since April and that is helping body areas, including my butt which I am trying to not have resemble the stern of an aircraft carrier.

Saw a clip about Buddha getting fit doing the same thing, but he’s using an underwater treadmill. Seems he needs to get in fighting shape before he can be adopted, so he is in the gym. Since a recent statistic I saw said 15 percent of all items on the Internet are linked to cats, I imagine this is just the first in a growing trend of feline fitness facilities.

Have a great weekend and Happy Quirky Friday!

We’ve Had Kittens! Er, Cubs!

The Oregon Zoo is at it again, we’ve got babies! This time three adorable lion cubs born last Saturday night to Neka. A first time Mom, she’s doing a good job so far of taking care of the kids. We won’t see them for six to eight weeks, so in the meantime, the zoo hooked up the Cub Cam.

See Neka check out the camera, very up close and personal with a lioness nose, and then watch the newborns. There is even a day two follow-up with one cub making a break for it from his den. Here’s hoping all goes well with the kidlets. Happy Quirky Friday!

Got Time For Some Fluffy Friday Fun?

September 6, 2013 By Kimberly A. Cook 4 Comments

by Kimberly A. Cook             (Twitter@  WarriorTales)

Rainy Friday here in Oregon. That’s okay, we need the water to put out the forest fires and water my garden.  Over the Labor Day weekend I did a lot of purging and cleaning around the house, so I rewarded myself watching the Gabriel Iglesias Aloha Fluffy comedy special on tv. Too fun!

Sinbad is on of my all time favorite comedians, I’ve seen him in concert several times and laughed so hard my cheeks hurt the next day. Plus, he’s an Air Force veteran, so he double rocks. One of my favorite things about him is he doesn’t need to use swearing to make me laugh; that takes talent.

Gabriel is the same way. This clip is from his Hawaiian concert last year. Take some time for a few good laughs when he talks about the movie “Magic Mike.” And yes, of course, that was a must see movie for me and my girlfriends when it premiered; Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey? Who cares if it had any script!

You can see more of the Aloha Fluffy special on YouTube. It rocks!

Happy Quirky Friday!

It’s Time For Duck Football!

August 30, 2013 By Kimberly A. Cook Leave a Comment

Got quite a lot of feedback from the Ranger folks about Tuesdays’s post, a big thank you to everyone.  And here it is Quirky Friday once again. For those getting a long weekend off, stay safe and enjoy it. For those working to keep us safe during the weekend and all the time, thank you.

It’s been a wild August weather month and this long weekend gives me something to look forward to; Ducks Football is back! So while I try to keep up with Chip Kelly and the Eagles, I get to watch the Ducks too. Life does have its rewards.

To get everyone in the football mood, here is a favorite performance by Puddles and the University of Oregon Band from last season. Can’t wait to see what they do this year! Happy Quirky Friday!
