Every Thanksgiving since the mid-1980s, my family has watched the Claymation Christmas tv special after we are stuffed with turkey. This wacky favorite explains something about my nutty family too: we love to laugh. So for today’s Quirky Friday I am giving you a clip of that fine tv show so you can enjoy it  too. And know, I watched it yesterday! Here’s hoping all have a safe and quirky Thanskgiving weekend!

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday; fabulous food and no presents to buy or wrap.  My three favorite indulgences are turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie. Spices are involved in all three. I’m not the only one who purrs when these foods are around.

A recent study found two of the most attractive smells to men are pumpkin and vanilla. I’m thinking of making pumpkin perfume with a dash of vanilla to put behind my ears. It could work! So while I look forward to rolling in all the good smells of Thanksgiving, here are a few big kitties who also appreciate the allure of spices. Happy Quirky Friday Thanksgiving next week!

Today is a perfect storm; Veterans Day and Quirky Friday.  While we honor all the men and women who have served today, I like to also honor our collective sense of military humor. The absurd situations one finds themself in during military duty boggles the mind. Creativity is legion in the military to break up the boredom. Good times.

So what happens when troops are motivated, bored and creative? Videos like this. This Navy favorite is in my YouTube Hall of Fame. Thank you to all who have served. Quirky Fridays were made for you!

It helps to have a sense of humor in the military. If you’re in Special Operations, it’s required equipment. In 2006 I attended author Suzanne Brockmann’s reader event in Atlanta, Georgia. One guest speaker was retired Navy Lt. Cmdr. Tom Rancich.  A Navy SEAL, Tom answered our questions and told some great stories.

When Suzanne got ready to promote her next military romance book with Navy SEAL characters, Tom agreed to tape some YouTube videos.  Check out this great story about how Tom met himself. Many wonder where the new leading men in Hollywood are coming from. I have no such concern. When this dashing young hero showed up onscreen in a small role, I knew he was bound for greatness. I’m a sucker for a black cape and sword, from Zorro to Darth Vader (until that whole father thing), but this talented hero now gets the top billing he deserves in his new movie out today. 

I know my fellow women and men veterans would have this man on our team in any situation. He’s good to go! Happy Quirky Friday!

Once again it is time for Quirky Fridays! Several years ago my brother-in-law insisted I watch a cute YouTube video about a bear. I was hooked and it became one of my guilty pleasures. Whenever I need to laugh or to get out of an “eat worms in the garden mood,” Gummy Bear does it for me.
