Got A Squirrel Snow Plow?

January 15, 2016 By Kimberly A. Cook 3 Comments

by Kimberly A. Cook               (Twitter@  WarriorTales)

Sunday before last on Jan. 3rd we all woke up to snow. It was quite the surprise since we were expecting freezing rain at 4 p.m. not snow at 7 a.m. But Mother Nature doesn’t like to disappoint, so we got freezing rain later in the day too. Fantastic!

Us Portlanders who listened to the weather reports swarmed the grocery stores on Saturday; one must not be iced in without snacks and junk food. I’d filled the bird and squirrel feeders too, just in case they had those YakTrax non-slippy things for their feet.

Spotted bird tracks in the snow, but no squirrel prints. Until I saw this video, little did I know he might have been out working the power lines with our PGE crews. How good is this squirrel at plowing? Would you do this for peanuts? He did! Bet his nose was cold too.

Have a great weekend and Happy Quirky Friday!

Rolling Into The Holidays

December 25, 2015 By Kimberly A. Cook 1 Comment

by Kimberly A. Cook         (Twitter@  WarriorTales)

Today is Christmas to many people around the world and maybe other bloggers are being very profound and insightful; not me. Because today I am eating every holiday goodie in sight; including lasagna, garlic bread, fruit salad, coleslaw, and tons of cookies. Plus chocolate. And eggnog. And hot chocolate. With whip cream. (No calories on Christmas! Santa says so!) Accompanied by family all around to help me snack away the day.

So when I finish all my happy noshing, I’m going to move like this little(?) pet raccoon to get around the house. So here’s hoping everyone enjoys the holiday of their choice, with friends and family who bring you joy today and all year. Plus all our feathered, furred, finned and four-legged critters who are our best pals all year long.

Merry Christmas to all, Happy Holidays to all, have a great weekend and Happy Quirky Christmas Friday!

Ready For Cozy Cuddles?

Since we’ve been having dark and stormy nights and days here in Oregon, what better time to stay in and cuddle for those of us who can? And if cats and dogs can get along, I think the rest of us can too. How relaxed are these furry guys and gals?

Have a great weekend and Happy Quirky Friday!

It’s Tiger Tuesday?

December 1, 2015 By Kimberly A. Cook 9 Comments

by Kimberly A. Cook              (Twitter@  WarriorTales)

So what comes after Black Friday and Cyber Monday? Tiger Tuesday! Have several big cat photos I took in Las Vegas I wanted to share. So what better way to do that than pile on to the naming day craze?

Last week I showed the picture of the white tiger cub so this week I wanted you to see both cubs. They told us they never know when they will get a white or a golden tiger cub in a litter. I love both!

IMG_0875

In this photo the cubs were in the nursery display area for four hours each day. Even with attendants, a large stuffed white tiger helped to ease their missing Mom. Obviously, the golden one thinks it’s Mom since he or she is cleaning the tiger. How adorable!

Next up is a close up of one of the leopards on a high rock shelf. This is the zoom full out. How gorgeous is this big guy? It took some framing of the shot to get his eyes between the link fence, but I am so happy I got him looking at me. I’m quite sure I bored him or her, but wow what a beautiful pussycat.

IMG_0787Came around the corner from the leopard and there was one of the large male white tigers with his eyes locked on the prize. Another leopard next to him had been out of his enclosure next to this guy and then came back in; white tiger had his eyes on him. The leopard never looked at him. I can understand why. I was not more that ten feet from the white tiger and he couldn’t care less about us humans, it was an amazing show of territory among big cats.

Just to prove he really didn’t care about humans, how about this close up?

And last but not least, who could leave without a swim by from one of my favorite mammals, the dolphin. Here is one of the boys keeping an eye on me and the rest of the two-legged humans. How amazing is he?

IMG_0748.JPGI always wonder what they’re thinking. I know they are so much smarter than moi. Easily.  And they can fly in the water! I require flotation devices, at least two.

If you get a chance to visit Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage in Las Vegas, go check it out. Your visit helps their conservation programs, including the one for the white lions of Timbavati who were rescued from the brink of extinction by the entertainers.

Maybe white lion pictures next Tuesday? Every Tuesday should be Tiger Tuesday!

What Do Our Pets Do When We’re Out?

November 27, 2015 By Kimberly A. Cook 2 Comments

by Kimberly A. Cook                 (Twitter@  WarriorTales)

Between the turkey and tv stupor I’m spending way too much time in the LaZBoy. So I’m not sure how I missed this trailer for a new movie next year, “The Secret Life of Pets.”

I’ve always wondered what Spec Ops Cat really does while I’m gone, but when I’m home he seems to sleep. A lot. In the sun spots. And eat. Maybe this new movie will clear things up for me next year.

Have a great weekend and Happy Quirky Friday!

Do You Have A Mog At Home?

November 20, 2015 By Kimberly A. Cook 1 Comment

by Kimberly A. Cook                (Twitter@  WarriorTales)

Spec Ops Cat gifted me with a hairball in the early hours this morning and it reminded me of this video my friend Carol shared with me. Many of us have a Mog at home. So in the interest of warning y’all to watch out for pet hijinks this holiday season, take a look at Mog’s Christmas morning.

Have a great weekend and Happy Quirky Friday!
