Clear the DVR! It’s Kitten – Puppy – Super Bowl Weekend!

January 30, 2015 By Kimberly A. Cook Leave a Comment

I’m one of those folks who likes to be surprised, so it’s been quite the challenge trying to avoid the early release of the Super Bowl commercials. Mostly I’ve succeeded except for the whole puppy-gate dust-up about the G D commercial, (I am not giving them more press by using their company name.)

But an article in today’s paper about a commercial to broadcast during Kitten Bowl II sparked my interest, so here it is for your viewing pleasure. While we are all celebrating the kitten and puppy bowls, The Lucy Pet Foundation had a special effects pro donate 90 percent of his team’s time to make this important commercial about the importance to spay and neuter our pets. Bravo Lucy Pet Foundation!

And how did they EVER get those cats into mini football helmets? Have a safe and great Bowl weekend everybody. Happy Quirky Friday!

Spent the last two days in fog, literally, but the sun poked out today.  Yeah! A co-worker at the day job shared this video with me yesterday and it is too cute for words! Love to cuddle the baby panda, but he might not quite cuddle back.

Have a great weekend and Happy Quirky Friday!

Time For A Summer Surfing Break?

December 5, 2014 By Kimberly A. Cook 2 Comments

We are finally out of the cold weather for a bit and back to the warm rain here in Oregon. With putting up holiday decorations and trying to get my list ready for Santa, thoughts turn to a warmer time of year and surfing goats! Who knew there are actually surfer goats besides the ones we met at Surfing Goat Dairy in Maui. Maybe they could be spokesgoats for the Dairy.

This California Pismo Beach kid, too true, is the cutest ever. Have a great weekend and Happy Quirky Friday!

How About A Great Whale Tale?

July 26, 2013 By Kimberly A. Cook 2 Comments

by Kimberly A. Cook           (Twitter@ WarriorTales)

Happened upon this clip while doing my usual cruise through Weather.com’s 10 day forecast for my town. I adore whales. When bad things happen to good whales it makes me crazy, but this whale had seagoing angels.

Do not try this at home, kids. These guys are experienced and still took huge risks, but I know that special Right Whale had the smarts to know they were trying to help. So for a good Happy Quirky Friday send off, check out this fabulous whale of a tale and tail. Get it?

Our Precious Pachyderm Lily Is Growing Up!

March 22, 2013 By Kimberly A. Cook 2 Comments

Who can believe a short three months ago the fabulous Lily entered our lives at the Oregon Zoo. This feisty young lady stole our hearts and is making a name for herself as a fearless go-getter. Seems she has a talent for smearing camera lenses too. She’s a pistol!

Check out her most recent baby book video showing how fast she is becoming a big girl.  Kids these days, they’re growing like weeds!

Happy Quirky Friday!

Adapting Skills for Writers, Veterans And Rhinos

March 5, 2013 By Kimberly A. Cook 1 Comment

by Kimberly A. Cook            (Twitter@ WarriorTales)

When I left the Army I joked I could work for Barnum & Bailey Circus or Mayflower Moving and Storage; supply and logistics training comes in very handy after the military. While we writers are constantly adapting to changes in the publishing world and upgrades in technology, basic skills and training help us to shift our careers and stay relevant in the marketplace.

The same could be said for the military skills of many veterans today. On Thursday night the Animal Planet will start a three-part mini-series about former military members called in to help stop poachers from decimating the White Rhinos in Africa. Once again, adapting.

Watch the video preview here: http://animal.discovery.com/tv-shows/battleground-rhino-wars/videos/rhino-wars-taking-down-the-bad-guys.htm

I’ve always thought military veterans would make the perfect animal rescue teams specially trained by Humane Societies to work here in the United States and around the world during disasters and wartime situations. The challenges the troops faced fighting in Iraq and coming across the Baghdad Zoo, with some animals caged and some loose, comes to mind.

I wanted to spread the word about this program which I support on many levels; our veterans working after their service working to help save the world’s Rhinos. As animal guardians of the planet, not only must we protect, witness and record animal’s stories, we must make sure the Rhino’s story does not end forever.

If you have time, check out the show Thursday night at 9 p.m. on Animal Planet. For more information about the series go to  http://animal.discovery.com/tv-shows/battleground-rhino-wars
