Need A Holiday Laugh?

December 23, 2016 By Kimberly A. Cook 3 Comments

Between too much sugar, salt, shopping, tight jeans and snow, I can always use a good laugh this time of year. So I decided to go back to one of my favorite crazy cartoons for a quick hit of nostalgia from 2005.

Who can go wrong with the Madagascar Penguins? Is this a wonderful creative country or what?

Have a safe holiday weekend and Happy Quirky Friday!

Does Snow Make You Nuts?

December 2, 2016 By Kimberly A. Cook Leave a Comment

Feeling a bit squirrely today.  Forecast says chance of snow next week and the freak out is on here in normally wet Oregon. We love Mt. Hood to be covered with snow, looks gorgeous right now when we can see it, but snow in the valley makes us nuts.

Folks back East think we’re wussies about it, but with a high water content we get snow/ice. In my opinion the only good uses for ice are hockey rinks, skating and alcoholic beverages, not on roads.

So while the grocery shopping frenzy ramps up for chips, dips and ice cream in the Portland metro area – our preferred snow supplies – let’s check out how our furry friend handles the white stuff.

This little guy reminds me of trying to find my car at the shopping mall. Or has he lost his nuts? Join the crowd little guy!

Have a great weekend and Happy Quirky Friday!

Pumpkin Pie For Hamsters Too?

November 25, 2016 By Kimberly A. Cook Leave a Comment

The only thing better than Thanksgiving is turkey and pie leftovers. Obviously this well-loved hamster has the same weakness I do for pumpkin pie. Watch this expert chow down on an entire pie; hamster size that is.

Have a great weekend and Happy After Thanksgiving Quirky Friday!

Making A Thankful List?

November 22, 2016 By Kimberly A. Cook 1 Comment

by Kimberly A. Cook               (Twitter@  WarriorTales)

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Spending time with family and chowing down on turkey, stuffing and pie is always a winner. Each year I think about what I’m thankful for and make a mental list. The more vintage I get in age, the simpler the items on my list have become.

Nature views like this one by Suttle Lake Lodge.

  • A day off to relax.
  • Sleeping in.
  • Real whipped cream on the pies.
  • Mom’s famous lime Jell-O with pineapple and cream cheese.
  • Laughing with family.
  • Gravy.
  • Full tummy.
  • Stopping the rat race for a national holiday.
  • Kitty cuddles.
  • Nap time.
  • Claymation Christmas.
  • Leftovers.
  • Pumpkin pie.
  • Good health.
  • Cozy warm home protecting us from the rain.
  • Taking time to listen.
  • Grateful for the good fortune we have.
  • Remembering family members we have lost but reliving the fun memories.
  • Thankful for the military personnel around the globe protecting us while we relax.
  • A Charlie Brown Christmas.
  • Hoping for peace and goodwill toward all women and men.

Wishing all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Let the competitive napping begin!

Let The Holiday Chaos Begin!

November 18, 2016 By Kimberly A. Cook 3 Comments

by Kimberly A. Cook                   (Twitter@  WarriorTales)

Confession: I bought Christmas bows last night. But they were on sale! Since I saw my first neighborhood Christmas lights ablaze on Veterans Day, I’ve surrendered to the holidays. Figure it’s a grand distraction from everything else and it comes with food. Lots of food.

So in the interest of a holiday public safety announcement, watch this video and learn. Yes, Temptations cat treats are Spec Ops Cat’s favorite. He approved this message.

Stock up now for your furry friends!

Can You Master Lazy Entertaining?

March 29, 2016 By Kimberly A. Cook 1 Comment

by Kimberly A. Cook                 (Twitter@  WarriorTales)

Easter is one of my favorite holidays since it’s an all bunnies all the time zone. This past Sunday I hosted the family holiday again but I entertained in full mosey mode. Its been a busy couple months with a surgery, an accident recovery and general chaos in the family.

So my plan was to air lift the vittles from one of our favorite restaurants. I ordered the ham and cheese quiche and the four different pieces of pie online from Shari’s Restaurant on Thursday. Picked them up at 10 a.m. on Saturday and put all in the frig. Since I also picked up lettuce, tomatoes, Hawaiian Sweet Rolls and two bouquets of flowers on Thursday night after work, fini!

Bunny booty bag, name tag holder and chocolate eggs. Step 1.

Since the cooking was done except for heating up the quiche on Sunday morning, I decided to do some bunny table decorating. I always have to make bunny booty bags to go for all my guests; it’s the perfect excuse to buy more Easter candy. Found the name tag holders for the table, the pink tablecloth and the bunny candy dish.

Add more bunny candy and flowers. Step 2.

My collection of rabbits from around the world sits right next to the dining room table, so adding the candy dish with Hershey’s Kisses and the chocolate candy covered eggs in the blue measuring bowl, almost perfect. I added two bouquets of flowers and all was set.

Years of bunny collecting, hares everywhere!

Some folks might call this slacking, but after years of cooking and baking, sometimes a person just needs a break. In the past we’ve tried this for Mother’s Day and it worked out quite well. There’s nothing like zooming past the waiting  line of 10,000 people at The Olive Garden to get lasagna, bread sticks and salad to go. The whimpers from those in the line is always followed by someone saying “Why didn’t we do that?”

IMG_1148.JPG
Then right before guests arrive some gate crasher always shows up looking for his name tag on the table. Step 3. There are fewer chocolate eggs in the bowl in this picture. No idea how that happened. That’s my story ……..

So after we had our meal, a nice chat and some folks took a little power nap, it was time to unbox the pie. We had one piece of everyone’s favorite, because you can’t buy a chocolate cream, peach, Marion berry, chocolate silk pie. Plus I sent home a piece of quiche for all to go with their bunny bags of chocolates.

Totally unexpected was a bunny booty haul I made with gifts from my sister and family. A mini bunny baking cake pan, chocolate bunny, chocolate carrots, bunny napkins, bunny marshmallow decorating kit and a bunny centerpiece. Bunnypalooza! Does life get much better than that? I think not.

Sometimes lazy really pays off. Viva la online food ordering! Plan ahead, Mother’s Day is coming….
